The old village core along the Großreuther Straße holds nine protected monuments. Its farmhouses and taverns of sandstone blocks, their fabric reaching back to the early 18th century, stand mostly well restored. The one to single out is the Landgasthaus Zum Lutzgarten at number 113, where, as Lutz's coffee house, a society called the Morgengesellschaft met from 1830 to 1933.
The Schwedenhaus is a protected monument too. Houses of former farmsteads stand at 87, 109 and 121, and the aircraft hangars at 117 are protected as well.
What is the history of Großreuth hinter der Veste?
The Imperial City of Nuremberg cleared the land in the 11th or 12th century for a royal estate farm, and the settlement grew into a forest-strip village. A document first names it in 1344, as 'von der Groʒʒen Reut'. The First and Second Margrave Wars and the Thirty Years' War each destroyed it.
Each time it was rebuilt. By the end of the 18th century it had 30 properties. It passed to Prussia in 1796 and to Bavaria in 1810.
Nuremberg took it in on 1 January 1899.
