Herrnhütte, Nuremberg — Area Guide & Where to Stay
Herrnhütte grew from a brick kiln Nuremberg's councillors put up in 1554, south of the Ziegelstein works the Second Margrave War had destroyed.

Where to stay in Herrnhütte
How the choice of base plays out on the ground.
Herrnhütte is somewhere to sleep rather than somewhere to book. Late-1960s housing on the old kiln plot is the whole of it, without a hotel row and without a listed facade to walk to. The U2 is the argument.
Its station named Herrnhütte opened on 27 January 1996 as the 35th on the Nuremberg network, and though it actually stands just over the Äußere Bayreuther Straße in Klingenhof it runs direct to the Altstadt and to Nuremberg Airport. Off the southern edge, Bahnhof Nürnberg Nordost puts the RB21 up the Gräfenbergbahn. Most visitors should still take the room in central Nuremberg and ride the U2 outward, keeping the Volkspark Marienberg for a morning.

About Herrnhütte
What are the main landmarks in Herrnhütte?
Nothing inside carries a D-5-64 number. The Bavarian monument list for Nuremberg's Nordöstliche Außenstadt explicitly covers statistical district 83 Marienberg, which is where Herrnhütte sits, yet it opens sections only for Schoppershof, Schafhof, Großreuth hinter der Veste, Loher Moos, Ziegelstein and Buchenbühl, and not one of its addresses falls on Falknerweg, Hugo-Distler-Straße or the Herrnhütte stretch of the Äußere Bayreuther Straße. The nearest protected object stands about 500 m north of the centre point and outside the district: a bronze girl on a fountain in Gräfenberger Straße, cast in 1930 by Ludwig Dasio, listed in Loher Moos as D-5-64-000-399.
Southwards the nearest is a Mietshaus of 1899 at Äußere Bayreuther Straße 99, D-5-64-000-32, beyond the Gräfenbergbahn in Schoppershof. Even the U-Bahn stop that bears the name lies elsewhere, running under Bessemerstraße in Klingenhof, east of the boundary.
What is the history of Herrnhütte?
Four properties made up Herrnhütte at the close of the 18th century, one of them a brickworks with its inn and outbuildings. The Free Imperial City of Nuremberg claimed high justice over them, which the Brandenburg-Bayreuth Oberamt Baiersdorf disputed, while the city's Bauamt held the ground lordship outright. Prussia took the place in 1796. Bavaria followed in 1810, the Justiz- und Kammeramt Erlangen having administered it since 1797, and the Gemeindeedikt then filed Herrnhütte under Großreuth hinter der Veste in 1813 and under Ziegelstein in 1818.
Twenty-six people lived here that year, 146 by 1910. Nuremberg absorbed the hamlet on 1 August 1920, two years after the brickworks shut, and the kiln yard stood open until the late 1960s, when apartment blocks were raised on it and the Äußere Bayreuther Straße was rerouted straight across the old works.
Where is Herrnhütte?
Four edges fix Herrnhütte and three of them are man-made. Falknerweg and Hugo-Distler-Straße close it off to the north, Ziegelsteinstraße and the Äußere Bayreuther Straße to the east, the Gräfenbergbahn to the south; only the western side opens, onto the Volkspark Marienberg. Bezirk 83 is called Marienberg.
Loher Moos lies past the Falknerweg, Klingenhof past the Äußere Bayreuther Straße to the south-east, and the Gemarkung underneath the whole quarter is Ziegelstein, in Nuremberg and in Middle Franconia.
