The district's signature sight is the Leipzig Panometer, where a former gasometer holds a 360-degree panorama. West along the Pleiße lie the Auwald forest paths and the Wildpark Leipzig, a free wildlife enclosure. A short way east, toward Probstheida, stand the Napoleonstein and the Monument to the Battle of the Nations, both tied to the 1813 fighting.

What is the history of Connewitz?
Connewitz grew from a village on the Pleiße, south of the old town, before Leipzig absorbed it as one of its localities. In October 1813 the river crossings here and at neighbouring Dölitz formed part of the southern front in the Battle of the Nations. Napoleon's army and the allied forces fought across these fields over several days.
The Napoleonstein records that battle. A century on, the vast Monument to the Battle of the Nations rose to its southeast, while the Torhaus Dölitz survived from the older village world just to the south.
Where is Connewitz?
Connewitz occupies the southern end of the Leipzig-Süd borough, downstream of the Südvorstadt. Its western flank is the Auwald, the floodplain forest that follows the Pleiße toward the city centre. Lößnig and Marienbrunn adjoin it to the south, Probstheida to the east.
