About Großzschocher
What are the main landmarks in Großzschocher?
Großzschocher's Apostelkirche, at the centre of the district, began as a Romanesque choir-tower church of 1217 and was given a neo-Baroque west front between 1904 and 1908. The Körnerhaus, once the estate gardener's house, recalls the poet Theodor Körner, nursed there for a night after he was wounded in 1813. The Anton-Zickmantel-Park, once a mill family's garden, has a pond with an island.

What is the history of Großzschocher?
Großzschocher was a Slavic settlement by the 7th or 8th century, and German farmers joined it in 1165. It is first named, as Zsochere, in 1217. During the Battle of Leipzig in 1813 French troops were quartered here amid heavy fighting.
Industry arrived from 1885, the village joined Leipzig in 1922, and in the 1960s its prefabricated blocks made up the largest new housing site in the city.
