What is the history of Lindenau?
Lindenau began as a village on the plain west of Leipzig. As the city's industry pushed outward through the nineteenth century, factories and dense tenement rows filled the surrounding fields, and the old village hardened into a working district. That past still marks the streets.
It was drawn into Leipzig as the growing city absorbed its western neighbours. Leipzig built a long trade in printing and typesetting, a craft the Museum für Druckkunst preserves just to the south. Out in Leutzsch, the Alfred-Kunze-Sportpark has long been a home of local football.
Where is Lindenau?
Lindenau occupies the inner-western belt of Leipzig, between centre and outer suburbs. Leutzsch adjoins it to the north-west, and Plagwitz with its former factory streets lies just to the south. The eastern edge faces the city core, a short tram run from the market square and the river meadows.
