What are the main landmarks in Lentävänniemi?
The lake is the landmark. Lentävänniemi has no tower or church to point to, but its shore on Lake Näsijärvi defines it, with jogging paths threading the woods and water around the apartment blocks. The peninsula itself is the draw.
Reaching out into the lake in northern Tampere, the district is bounded by water on most sides and by Niemi and Niemenranta where it joins the land to the south-west. Beyond the shore the wider Pirkanmaa region opens across the lake, and the towers of central Tampere stand off to the south.
What is the history of Lentävänniemi?
Lentävänniemi grew as a suburb on the water. The peninsula in northern Tampere was built up with apartment blocks in the suburban decades, set against the shore of Lake Näsijärvi rather than around an old village core. The shore shaped the plan.
Housing was laid out to face the lake, with paths run along the water, and later the neighbouring ground of Niemi and Niemenranta filled in to the south-west, extending this corner of Tampere along the Pirkanmaa shoreline.
Where is Lentävänniemi?
Lentävänniemi lies in northern Tampere in south-western Finland, a peninsula district on the shore of Lake Näsijärvi, bordering Niemi and Niemenranta to the south-west in the Pirkanmaa region.
