Linnainmaa, Tampere — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Linnainmaa keeps one notable marker: the Mannerheimin patsas, the statue of Mannerheim standing in this eastern district of Tampere. Otherwise the streets speak quietly. Rows of detached houses from the post-war decades, with newer terraced and multi-storey blocks among them, make up most of the built fabric here.

The roads frame it. Tampere's eastern bypass runs along the western side and Highway 12 across the north, edges that set Linnainmaa apart from Kaukajärvi and the rest of this corner of the Pirkanmaa region.

Linnainmaa grew with the car. Its core of detached houses went up in the 1950s and 1960s as Tampere spread east, and later terraced and multi-storey homes filled the gaps between them. The roads shaped it.

As Tampere's eastern bypass and Highway 12 were laid along its edges, this part of eastern Tampere settled into a commuter district of some six thousand people, one of the calmer residential corners of the Pirkanmaa region beside Kaukajärvi.

Linnainmaa lies in eastern Tampere in south-western Finland, some six kilometres from the city centre, hemmed by Tampere's eastern bypass to the west and Highway 12 to the north, with Kaukajärvi to the south in the Pirkanmaa region.
