Vuores, Tampere — Area Guide & Where to Stay

The lakes are the landmark. Vuores has no old church or tower, but its character comes from water and woodland: numerous small lakes break up the terrain across this part of southern Tampere, with parks and footpaths laid between the new housing. The plan itself is the monument.

Drawn jointly by Tampere and Lempäälä, the district was shaped as a model of dense low-rise building set into forest, and the boundary between the two municipalities runs straight through it. Hervanta lies over the ridge to the north, the older neighbour against which this newer corner of the Pirkanmaa region defines itself.

Vuores is young. Construction on the Tampere side began in 2010, after the city and neighbouring Lempäälä drew up a shared master plan for the empty ridges and lakes on their common border. Each municipality builds in its own area.

The result was a planned district raised from forest in southern Tampere, designed around its water and woodland rather than grown from an old village, and growing into one of the more densely settled new neighbourhoods of the Pirkanmaa region beside long-established Hervanta.

Vuores sits in southern Tampere in south-western Finland, on the line where the city meets Lempäälä, a district threaded with lakes and broken terrain at the southern edge of Tampere with Hervanta and Kaukajärvi to the north.
