Kaukajärvi, Tampere — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Kaukajärvi keeps few sights of its own. It is a residential corner of eastern Tampere, given over to homes rather than monuments, so the named draws lie outside its bounds. The nearest gather to the south.

The Hervanta suburb holds the area's church, museum and rink, while Pohjois-Hervanta and Hervanta luode complete the ring of districts between Kaukajärvi and the planned town. What Kaukajärvi offers is calm. It is a settled eastern quarter of the city, a short distance from the busier streets of Hervanta and from everything central Tampere has to show.

Kaukajärvi spread east as Tampere grew. The city pushed housing out onto its eastern ground through the post-war decades, and this district took shape as one of those new residential areas beyond the old core. It filled in gradually.

Detached houses and blocks of flats covered the land as the nearby Hervanta satellite was being planned to the south, so the two grew up as neighbours on the eastern side of the city. Through that growth Kaukajärvi stayed a quiet quarter, facing Pohjois-Hervanta and Etelä-Hervanta across the edge of the larger Tampere build-out.

Kaukajärvi lies in eastern Tampere in south-western Finland, a residential district on the city's eastern side, with the Hervanta suburb and Pohjois-Hervanta to the south and the centre of Tampere back to the west.
