Tampella sits among Tampere's biggest draws. The Näsinneula, the tall observation tower over the city, rises at the edge of Särkänniemi, the lakeside amusement park whose Särkänniemen Tornado coaster loops above the shore. Art lines the water.

What is the history of Tampella?
Tampella was a factory. The district takes its name from the great Tampella ironworks and textile mill that ran beside the rapids, drawing on the falling water for power as Tampere grew into an industrial city. The mills fell silent.
Their halls were converted, and the Museokeskus Vapriikki opened inside one of them while apartments rose along the shore below the Näsinneula tower. Leisure replaced labour. Särkänniemi and the Sara Hildénin taidemuseo turned this north-western edge of Tampere into a waterfront of culture within the Pirkanmaa region.
