Carrassi sits a short way out from Murat, which is where most of Bari's rooms are. Via Giuseppe Re David and Via Picone run the length of it and the quartiere grew up between them, so a bed on either street keeps the centre within a walk and the Russian Church a few minutes off it. San Pasquale is the neighbour east. Carbonara lies south.

Santa Maria Maddalena stands inside the quartiere. The Russian Church is the building people come for, begun in 1913 and unlike anything else standing here. Maria Santissima Addolorata is the other church.
What is the history of Carrassi?
The tram came before the quartiere did. A line ran from Bari through Carbonara to Ceglie between 1909 and 1952, the streets filled in after the First World War, and the city recognised Carrassi formally on the twenty-sixth of January in 1970. Under Fascism it was called XXVIII Ottobre.
The old name came back.
