Libertà lies west of Bari's centre, with the Adriatic closing its northern side along corso Vittorio Veneto. Piazza Garibaldi and its gardens sit on the seam with Murat, so via Sparano and the walk to the old town both start a few blocks beyond the quarter's eastern edge. Via Brigata Regina closes the west.
Rooms here stand among schools, the tribunale civile on via Giovanni Bovio, and the old Manifattura dei Tabacchi rather than among the shopfronts of the centre, which suits you if a lived-in street matters more than a hotel address.

What are the main landmarks in Libertà?
Libertà holds the Liceo classico Quinto Orazio Flacco, raised on corso Vittorio Veneto in 1933 to a design by Concezio Petrucci. Inland stands the casa degli alluvionati, a five-storey block wrapped by via Nicolai and via Martiri d'Otranto, where four corner doorways and six more along the façades carry the same carved line naming the flood of November 1926. The old Manifattura dei Tabacchi faces it.
The giardino Mimmo Bucci and the gardens of Piazza Garibaldi, which sits on the seam with Murat, are the green ground the quarter has.
What is the history of Libertà?
Libertà was built out in the first thirty years of the 1900s, when port trade and industry pushed Bari past the old town and the Murat borgo. The lama Picone flooded Bari in 1905. Water came down again in 1915, and after the flood of November 1926 the Istituto fascista autonomo per le case popolari commissioned a block on via Nicolai from the engineer Giuseppe Favia for families the water had left without a roof.
Its doorways still carry the date. Bari constituted Libertà as a quartiere on 26 January 1970, grouped it with Marconi - San Girolamo - Fesca in the VIII circoscrizione, and moved it to Municipio I in the reform of 2014.

Libertà covers not quite two square kilometres between via Brigata Regina and Murat, with corso Italia on the south and the Adriatic along its northern edge.
