The Lungomare Nazario Sauro is the address here. The city laid it out between 1927 and 1928 along the Adriatic, and it carries the public buildings and the view, so a room on or just behind it puts the Pane e Pomodoro beach at one end and the old town at the other. Via Abbrescia closes the western side. Japigia begins across Ponte Giuseppe Garibaldi.

San Giuseppe is the parish church. The Pinacoteca metropolitana di Bari sits in the Palazzo dell'Amministrazione Provinciale, put up in 1935, and the Teatro Kursaal Santalucia of 1927 and Palazzo Colonna of 1925 stand near it. The Palazzo dell'Aeronautica Militare went up the same year as the Pinacoteca's building.
What is the history of Madonnella?
The name changed twice under Mussolini. The quartiere was called Benito Mussolini in 1927 and then dell'Oriente, it was folded into Murat in 1938, and it was restored as a quartiere of its own in 1970. A new Madonna went into the niche in 1956.
