Downtown is the oldest district in Salt Lake City, and the whole city's grid begins on its Temple Square block. The record here is written in buildings rather than in a charter year: the Nelson Wheeler Whipple House, the Devereaux House, the David Keith Mansion and Carriage House, the Simon Bamberger House and the William Culmer House all carry the names of the households that raised them. Congregations left their own line, among them the First Presbyterian Church of Salt Lake City, the Japanese Church of Christ and Iglesia La Luz del Mundo.
