About Rose Park
What are the main landmarks in Rose Park?
The rose plan is the sight: American Beauty Drive runs as the long stem, every street is named after a rose variety, and the first roofs had red or green shingles. Four original stone markers mark the major streets. The houses are post-war and mid-century modern brick.
The Rose Park Golf Course and part of the Jordan River Parkway are here, and the Day Riverside Library has an eco-garden.
What is the history of Rose Park?
In the 1940s and 1950s the developer Alan E. Brockbank sold Rose Park as affordable brick homes on larger plots for GIs back from the Second World War. Its subdivision deed carried a racial covenant. Many householders worked for railroads such as Union Pacific.
The young families planted trees, fruit trees among them, and a windstorm on 8 September 2020 toppled many of the oldest. Refineries dumped waste in a sludge pit from 1930 to 1957, and after it became a Superfund site in 1982, Amoco agreed in 1985 to seal it under a slurry wall and a clay cap.
Where is Rose Park?
Rose Park lies in the north-west of Salt Lake City, west of I-15, north of 600 North, and east of Redwood Road, and reaches north to the city limits at the Davis County line. It lies north of Fairpark and Glendale and west of the slope of Capitol Hill. The original development ran from 900 West to the Jordan River.
