The Sugar House Monument stands at the neighbourhood's commercial heart, and the Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts keeps the folk collections of Utah under one roof. Houses do most of the work. Woodruff Villa, the Asahel Hart Woodruff House, the George Arbuckle House and the Booth-Parsons House are listed one after another.
Three congregations account for much of the rest, in the Sugar House LDS Ward Building, the Third Presbyterian Church Parsonage and the Seventh-day Adventist Meetinghouse and School.
What is the history of Sugar House?
The name is two words. Sugar House is written that way officially, though the single-word form Sugarhouse turns up so often in local use that the two spellings run side by side. For most of its life this was a residential quarter served by a suburban-style retail hub.
Mid-rise offices, apartment blocks and hotels then filled in around Sugar House Park, and Salt Lake City began treating the neighbourhood as a second downtown rather than an outlying shopping street. Woodruff Villa survives from the older order.
