Downtown Salt Lake City holds the rooms. Glendale is residential ground on the west side, close to the airport and a short drive from the middle of the city, which is what people who live here name first. Ten parks fill about eighty-eight acres.
Most of them run along the Jordan River, among them Jordan Park, the largest in west Salt Lake, which holds the weekly People's Market. A municipal golf course of eighteen holes lies here as well.

What are the main landmarks in Glendale?
The International Peace Gardens are the set piece. Conceived in 1939 and dedicated in 1952, the park sets aside ground for twenty-seven different countries, and it sits beside the Jordan River like most of the neighbourhood's parks. Three listed buildings carry names.
The Nelson Wheeler Whipple House and the Harold B. and Fern Lee House are dwellings, and A Monument to Peace: Our Hope for the Children is the one listed work of public art. The Sorenson Unity Center does the rest. It runs art exhibits, film and cultural events, and it holds a fitness centre, a music studio for teenagers and the Unity Gardens.
What is the history of Glendale?
The Cannon family homesteaded this ground. George Q. and Caroline Cannon built a Victorian brick house here in 1876, and the Cannon Ward was established on 31 May 1896 to serve the area between Redwood Road and 600 West. Industry followed in the 1890s.
A brickyard, a brewery, a biscuit factory, salt works and a soup factory opened near the north-eastern corner, and the railway lines that cut across the city in the early twentieth century left the west side isolated beside them. Housing came with the war. The Glendale Gardens project was built through the 1940s and early 1950s for families moving to Utah for the war effort, which followed the Ninth Service Command's move to Fort Douglas.
Remington ran an ordnance plant here. Buildings went up inside the Utah Ordnance Plant in 1941 to make ammunition, it worked from 1942 to 1943, stood in standby until 1946, and was decommissioned and sold after that.
Where is Glendale?
Glendale holds the lower west side of Salt Lake City, with Poplar Grove, Fair Park and Rose Park to the north, the South Salt Lake boundary along its southern edge, and the Jordan River and its parkway running through it.
