Where to stay in Morón
Each area has its own feel; here's who each one suits.
Morón is a commuter city with its own centre. That double character decides the choice: rooms near the Sarmiento railway line serve anyone treating the city as a base for Downtown Buenos Aires, while the streets around the cathedral serve anyone here for Morón itself. Avenida Rivadavia joins the two.
The avenue carries bus traffic in from the capital and gives the partido capital its spine, which makes an address on or near it the least complicated answer of the three. Aviation pulls the other way. The National Museum of Aeronautics Brigadier Edmundo Civati Bernasconi and the Palomar Logistics Area Historic Hall stand on the airfield side, and a stay chosen for them looks different from one chosen for the Museum of the Cathedral of Morón Inmaculada Concepción del Buen Viaje.
Both sit inside the partido. National Highway 7 handles anyone arriving by car, and a room with parking near that road suits a trip spending more of its time in Greater Buenos Aires than in Morón. The capital holds a longer list of rooms, though the run back out on the Sarmiento railway line at the end of an evening is what taking it costs.
About Morón
What is Morón known for?
Two collections carry the city's name outward. The National Museum of Aeronautics Brigadier Edmundo Civati Bernasconi is the national aviation holding, entered in the record four times over under varying renderings of the name and once plainly as National Museum of Aeronautics Moron. The other is ecclesiastical.
Museum of the Cathedral of Morón Inmaculada Concepción del Buen Viaje attaches to the church that gives this partido capital its religious centre.
What are the main landmarks in Morón?
Seven entries, four of them one museum. The National Museum of Aeronautics accounts for those four, a single aviation collection entered under several renderings of Brigadier Edmundo Civati Bernasconi's name. Palomar Logistics Area Historic Hall belongs to the same airfield ground.
Museum of the Cathedral of Morón Inmaculada Concepción del Buen Viaje and the Museo Histórico Y De Arte Gral. José De San Martín close the list, one tied to the cathedral and one to the civil record of the district.
What is the history of Morón?
The cathedral came with the city. Morón's founding is dated to 1770, and the church that became the cathedral of Inmaculada Concepción del Buen Viaje fixed the point the settlement organised itself around. Its museum keeps that thread.
The Museum of the Cathedral of Morón Inmaculada Concepción del Buen Viaje holds the ecclesiastical record, while the Museo Histórico Y De Arte Gral. José De San Martín carries the civil and artistic side under the name of a figure from the national story. Morón became the capital of its partido, the seat from which the municipality is administered.
Transport rewrote the city twice. Avenida Rivadavia and National Highway 7 tied Morón to Downtown Buenos Aires by road, and the Sarmiento railway line did the same on rails, which is why this partido capital reads as part of the capital's working day rather than as a town standing apart from it. Aviation was the third change.
The airfield ground brought the National Museum of Aeronautics Brigadier Edmundo Civati Bernasconi and the Palomar Logistics Area Historic Hall, both recording a technical and military past quite separate from the cathedral's. Nothing here stayed rural.
Where is Morón?
Morón lies 20 km out from Downtown Buenos Aires, near enough that the built ground never breaks between the two and far enough that the partido keeps a working centre of its own. The partido's footprint is small. Its land is wholly urban, given over to streets, the cathedral quarter and the airfield at Palomar rather than to open country, and it falls within the subtropical band of the southern hemisphere.
What is the climate of Morón?
Summer peaks in January and February, when the subtropical band puts real heat on the streets of the partido and the museums make better use of an afternoon than the pavement does. Winter is the mild half. July brings the coolest weeks of the year to Greater Buenos Aires, and Morón, sharing that metropolitan ground, follows the capital's weather almost exactly.
A northern visitor should invert the calendar.
How do you get to Morón?
Three routes do the work. Buses run in along Avenida Rivadavia, National Highway 7 takes the car traffic, and the Sarmiento railway line links Morón directly with Downtown Buenos Aires, 20 km off. The railway is the most direct of the three.
From the centre the cathedral museum is a walk, while the National Museum of Aeronautics Brigadier Edmundo Civati Bernasconi and the Palomar Logistics Area Historic Hall stand out on the airfield ground and need transport of their own.
