What is the history of Encinarejo?
Encinarejo was founded in the 1940s by the Instituto Nacional de Colonización, on farmland the institute took by expropriation. The village was known for years as Encinarejo de Córdoba. Eighty-three farmers and their families took the first plots.
The village governs itself as an entidad local autónoma inside the municipality of Córdoba, holding its own council and its own competences. The site predates the village. Roman remains found here point to occupation in the first century, and a late Roman farming villa rests below the streets.
