Ciudad Jardín is a residential quarter a short walk west of the walled centre of Córdoba. The eastern strip beside Avenida República Argentina sits closest to the old town, and the Casino Militar marks that edge. Trees came late here.
Deeper in, the blocks around the Jardines de Juan Carlos I swap a few minutes of that walk for the barrio's one walled garden. Stay here if you want the Mezquita-Catedral a kilometre east but would rather sleep away from the patio crowds of Distrito Centro.

Ciudad Jardín sits on the Anfiteatro de Córdoba. A dig around the Rectorado de la Universidad de Córdoba in 2002 identified its elliptical foundations as the largest amphitheatre known in Roman Hispania. The Casino Militar closes the eastern edge, a 1930 building by Francisco Azorín with corner turrets and a roof of glazed white and green tile.
Calle San Diego de Alcalá carries the parish church, the Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción y San Alberto Magno, consecrated in 1963. The Jardines de Juan Carlos I fill the old veterinary school's animal cemetery. Walls ring the whole enclosure.
What is the history of Ciudad Jardín?
Ciudad Jardín carries the name of a garden plan that was never fully built. The Romans got there first. Beneath the quarter lie the foundations of the Anfiteatro de Córdoba, raised in the western suburb around the middle of the first century and abandoned by the fourth, beside the road whose line survives as Avenida de Medina Azahara.
Work on the veterinary school that later became the Rectorado de la Universidad de Córdoba ran from 1914 to 1936, and the Casino Militar went up on the eastern edge in 1930. Green space arrived last, in 2000.
