Las Margaritas is Córdoba's transport quarter, holding the Estación de Autobuses de Córdoba inside its streets and the city's main railway platforms a few steps past its southern edge. Beds here are modern flats and business hotels rather than patio houses, most within a block of Calle Santa María de Trassierra. Avenida Vía Augusta edges the barrio south.
The Mezquita-Catedral lies about two kilometres south-east in the historic centre, and the walk in is flat the whole way. Take it if you need an early departure and a quiet street at night.

What are the main landmarks in Las Margaritas?
Las Margaritas owns one monument, and it is an odd one: the Estación de Autobuses de Córdoba, walled in grey Mondariz granite 110 metres to a side. César Portela and Juan Cuenca Montilla took the Premio Nacional de Arquitectura for it in 1999. A circular garden of marble benches and celosías sits at its centre.
Ruins of a mosque show in one sector, and a Mozarabic house and two joined aqueducts sit in the car park. Calle Santa María de Trassierra carries the barrio's shops past the gate. The rest of the barrio is newer.
The late-Roman palace at Cercadilla lies across the tracks, in the neighbouring barrio of Cercadilla-Medina Azahara.
What is the history of Las Margaritas?
Las Margaritas grew in the second half of the 19th century as an extramuros suburb north of the walled city, settled by factory hands and railwaymen. Fundición Las Margaritas, among the largest works of its day, stood on the ground the bus station covers and is drawn on Dionisio Casañal's 1884 plan of Córdoba. La Porcelana, the enamelware plant, ran from 1900 to 1964.
Metalgráfica Cordobesa, the tin works known as La Fábrica de las Latas, closed in 1971. Industry ebbed from the late 1960s. Housing took the plots.
Burying the railway in the 21st century erased the Paso de las Margaritas crossing and put office blocks on the old yards.
Where is Las Margaritas?
Las Margaritas holds the centre-south of Córdoba's Distrito Noroeste, between the buried Arroyo del Moro and Huerta de la Reina. Moreras lies north, the railway south.
