Guadalquivir is a public-housing barrio at the southern edge of Córdoba. You will find few beds. Avenida de Cádiz is the spine, running north to Plaza de Andalucía in Sector Sur, where the Puente de San Rafael crosses towards the old town, and south towards the A-4.
Behind it the flats stand along Calle Libertador Andrés de Santacruz and Calle General Lázaro Cárdenas. Stay here if you are driving and want the motorway and Avenida de la Torrecilla a turn away, and treat the Mezquita-catedral, about two kilometres north over the water, as a bus ride rather than a walk.

About Guadalquivir
What are the main landmarks in Guadalquivir?
Guadalquivir keeps its history in street names, and its main built landmark is the parish church of Santa Luisa de Marillac on Calle Libertador José Gervasio Artigas. Bishop José Antonio Infantes Florido raised it when the barrio was new. Two state primary schools sit in the grid, CEIP Gloria Fuertes and CEIP Federico García Lorca.
The street names do the rest: Calle Libertador Simón Bolívar, Calle Libertador Hidalgo y Costilla, Calle General Lázaro Cárdenas, and Calle Descubridor Américo Vespucio. Nothing older stands here. The Puente romano and the Mezquita-catedral stand about two kilometres north, over the water in Córdoba.
What is the history of Guadalquivir?
Guadalquivir was built as a rehousing scheme, not a settlement. The Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Urbanismo put up its first 1,110 subsidised flats between 1981 and 1982, meant for families living in portable huts at Las Moreras and Las Palmeras on the far side of Córdoba. Those families refused to move.
The finished blocks stood empty and were stripped. In January 1984 the households allocated flats there, many in old rented rooms close to collapse, organised as the Asociación de Vecinos Amargacena under Antonio Perea, and the first 300 homes were taken over from 10 February. Control passed to the Junta de Andalucía that year.

Guadalquivir lies on the river's left bank in the Distrito Sur of Córdoba, with Sector Sur to the north and the A-4 and the N-432 along its eastern edge.
