Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.
The Parador de La Arruzafa stands on the Arruzafa slope among chalet plots, with the Sierra de Córdoba directly behind it and a bus ride, not a walk, down to the monuments. That is one end of Norte-Sierra. At the southern end the ground flattens: Huerta de San Rafael, Santa Rosa and Valdeolleros run straight into Campo de la Merced-Molinos Alta, which is already Distrito Centro, so the old town starts a short walk south.
Córdoba's railway station lies just outside. Take the slope if you drive, the south if you come by rail.

What are the main landmarks in Norte-Sierra?
The Parque de la Asomadilla covers 27 hectares of the Asomadilla hill, planted from bare ground as Mediterranean woodland: 197 hawthorns, 192 pomegranates, 117 holm oaks and about 1,200 trees across 18 native species. It opened on 26 March 2007. A mirador at the top faces back over Córdoba.
West of the park, off Avenida del Brillante, the Parador de La Arruzafa is itself entered in the Andalusian historic heritage catalogue. On the eastern rim, where the Arroyo Pedroches leaves the district, a three-arched Roman bridge built between 27 BC and AD 81 still spans the stream.
What is the history of Norte-Sierra?
The slope was Córdoba's country belt long before it was a suburb. Abd al-Rahman I lodged in almunias outside the walls after taking the emirate in 756, the best known of them La Arruzafa, and only moved into the city after a plot against him in 784. Antonio Cruz-Conde, mayor from 1951 to 1962, built a treatment plant at Villa Azul in 1955, and the Parador Nacional de la Arruzafa and the Camping Municipal both date from his term.
One barrio is still called Cámping. A neighbourhood association in Valdeolleros proposed a park in 1983, and the first phase opened in 2007 for more than five million euros.
Where is Norte-Sierra?
The southern limit is Avenida de la Libertad and the railway; the ronda norte draws the west; past El Brillante, Norte-Sierra gives out into open Sierra de Córdoba.
