Where to stay in Nisula
The right area depends on your trip. Here's who each one suits — pick the place, then the hotel.
Nisula sits in the central part of Jyväskylä, a district of museums and parkland rather than hotel rows. Beds are thin on the ground here. The slope crowned by Vesilinna gives the quarter its footing, with the Keski-Suomen luontomuseo and the Jyväskylän taidemuseo gathered nearby, a calm base a short walk from the city centre.
The district suits you if you want a quiet, museum-flanked corner of central Finland, close to the Suomen käsityön museo yet away from the busier streets of Jyväskylä.

What is the history of Nisula?
Nisula grew on the central slopes of Jyväskylä as the city spread up its ridges in central Finland. The hill shaped it. Vesilinna rose on the high ground to hold the water and to watch over the town, and over time the quarter gathered the museums that give it its character, the Jyväskylän taidemuseo and the Suomen käsityön museo settling among its streets while the Toivolan Vanha Piha preserved an older yard of timber houses.
The Puutarhurin talo kept the memory of the garden ground it once was. Nisula took its place as a museum district of the city.
