Viinikka, Tampere — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Viinikka lies a short way south-east of central Tampere, a district built from 1914 on old manor land beside Lake Iides.

About Viinikka

Where to stay in Viinikka

Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.

Viinikan kirkko is the marker to aim for. Beds run thin across a district of houses and low blocks, so stays here are quiet ones within reach of the water at Lake Iides, with central Tampere near enough that the centre stays an easy errand. Nekala adjoins it.

The stone church anchors the middle.

About Viinikka

What are the main landmarks in Viinikka?

One church does the work here. Viinikan kirkko opened in 1932, a stone building raised a generation after the first houses went up, and it stands among streets laid out on the old Hatanpää Manor land. Lake Iides lies just east.

Nekala is the neighbour on the landward side, and central Tampere is a short run away.

What is the history of Viinikka?

Building began in 1914. Until then the ground belonged to the Hatanpää Manor estate, and the district that rose on it filled in over the decades that followed, street after street, until the stone church opened in 1932. That church still fixes the centre.

Viinikka has grown around it since, west of Lake Iides.

Where is Viinikka?

Lake Iides holds the eastern edge and Nekala the ground next door, with central Tampere a kilometre and a half off from the district.
