What is the history of Vera?
Vera took shape as Tbilisi spread northwest from its medieval core. Apartment houses climbed the slopes above the river through the imperial era, and Rustaveli Avenue, once called Golovin Avenue, was cut as the city's main boulevard along the lower edge. Its museums and galleries followed.
Among them stand the Georgian National Museum and the National Gallery of Georgia. The Vere valley became the ground of the Tbilisi Zoo.
Where is Vera?
Vera occupies the slopes above Rustaveli Avenue on the right bank of the Mtkvari River, between the older quarter of Mtatsminda and the wide junction of Heroes' Square. Its northwestern side drops into the Vere River valley, where the Tbilisi Zoo and the Tbilisi Sports Palace stand. Saburtalo lies beyond Heroes' Square.
Toward the river, the streets fall away to Rustaveli Avenue and the museums along it.
