Via Giulia sets the tone. Hotels and guest houses occupy old frontages along Via Giulia and the lanes running down toward the Tiber, a stretch where doorways open into courtyards and the traffic thins once the offices empty. Galleria Spada and the Torlonia Museum are near enough to visit on a whim.

Villa Farnesina anchors one end of the rione, with the Torlonia Museum and Galleria Spada holding the other palace collections. Churches account for the rest. Santissima Trinità dei Pellegrini, San Girolamo della Carità, Santa Maria dell'Orazione e Morte and Santa Caterina della Rota gather in the older lanes, while Santa Caterina da Siena a Via Giulia and Santo Spirito dei Napoletani face the long street itself.
Sant'Eligio degli Orefici, San Salvatore in Onda, Santa Brigida and San Tommaso di Canterbury add smaller frontages. The Oratorio del Gonfalone and Santa Lucia del Gonfalone carry the same name. Santa Dorotea, San Giuseppe alla Lungara and Santa Croce alla Lungara complete the count of named churches.
What is the history of Regola?
Flooding made the name: the Tiber dropped soft sand along its left bank, Romans called that sand Arenula, and the word wore down over centuries into Regola. The rione dates from 1300. Municipio I covers it, and the strands the river built were long since paved into lanes and building plots.
Church building followed, from Santissima Trinità dei Pellegrini to the Oratorio del Gonfalone, and Villa Farnesina rose among them.
