The Baths of Diocletian take up an enormous imperial footprint, and the Museo Nazionale Romano divides its collections between those halls and Palazzo Massimo alle Terme, only a short walk apart. Three streets converging on Piazza dei Crociferi gave the quarter its name, from the Latin trivium, and that square still lies beside the modern Trevi square which carries the word onward. The arms carry three swords. Rome counted Trevi among its rioni from 1300, and Municipio I administers the same ground.
Later centuries filled it with churches and, over the imperial ruins, the museum halls that hold the Museo Nazionale Romano.
