What is Taizhou known for?

Guoqing Temple and Gaoming Temple hold the religious side, the Linhai Ancient City Wall the defensive one, and Nanfeng Pagoda stands apart from both. The rest of the list belongs to the sea. Jiangxia Tidal Power Station and Kanmen Tide Station both work from the movement of the water, and the Yijiangshan Islands lie offshore.

What are the main landmarks in Taizhou?

Pagodas outnumber everything else. Qianfo Pagoda in Linhai, Nanfeng Pagoda, Fuyinshan Pagoda and Ruilong Ganying Pagoda are all listed, and the Linhai Ancient City Wall runs through the same town as the first. Museums cover the rest.

What is the history of Taizhou?

Rock cut by the Ancient Yue People at Xianju is the oldest mark on the list, older than any wall or temple standing in the prefecture. The Dong'ou Kingdom left ruins at Daxi. Temples came next, and Guoqing Temple and Gaoming Temple have carried that line ever since, with pagodas going up at Nanfeng, Fuyinshan and elsewhere over the centuries that followed.

Defence shaped the coast. The Linhai Ancient City Wall stands for the defensive side of that story, and the Memorial Temple of Qi Jiguang keeps a name attached to it. Later layers are easy to read.

Taozhu Ancient Town and the Lock Bridges in Xinhe Town record the working towns of the plain, the Lin Yingqi Merit Arch records a family honoured in stone, and the Former Enze Hospital marks the arrival of a new kind of institution. The twentieth century added its own entries, among them the Sites of the Battle of Yijiangshan Islands. Engineering came last: Kanmen Tide Station, the Jiangxia Tidal Power Station and the Jinqing Great Bridge all turn on the same tidal water that shaped everything before them.

Where is Taizhou?

The East China Sea sets the eastern limit, and the ground behind it runs from tidal flats and river mouths back into the inland counties around Xianju. Ningbo lies north, Wenzhou south. Shaoxing, Jinhua and Lishui close the western side, which leaves the coast as the only open direction. Shanghai and Hangzhou both lie well beyond.

What is the climate of Taizhou?

Weather arrives off the East China Sea, which keeps Taizhou milder in winter than the inland prefectures and heavier with damp through a subtropical summer. Kanmen sits right on that edge. Rain comes in extended spells rather than short bursts, and the difference between the shoreline and the inland counties around Xianju shows in both temperature and cloud.

How do you get to Taizhou?

Ningbo and Wenzhou bracket the approach along the coast. Roads from either direction reach the Taizhou districts without much detour, and the Jinqing Great Bridge carries traffic across the water inside the prefecture itself. Shanghai lies far to the north.

Coming from Hangzhou means crossing the inland prefectures of Shaoxing, Jinhua or Lishui before the ground drops toward the sea.
