Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.
Omorfita has no hotel strip, and the beds within reach of it sit south and west, inside the Venetian walls of Nicosia or along the avenues of North Nicosia. Stay there if you would rather give your day to the old village core below St. Hilarion Road than to the monuments inside the walls. Roughly half the quarter's administrative area lies inside the buffer zone or in militarized ground.

What are the main landmarks in Omorfita?
Omorfita keeps its built markers in the old village core, south of St. Hilarion Road. Küçük Kaymaklı Camii stands south of the church, at the southern end of the village. The church of Agios Demetrianos went up early in the 20th century, a single nave with a semi-hexagonal apse and a cylindrical dome roofed in round clay tiles.
Three bays divide its nave. North of the roofs the bed of the Pediaios marks the edge toward Mandres.
What is the history of Omorfita?
Omorfita stood as its own village until 29 March 1968, when its village authority was folded into the municipality of Nicosia. Rupert Gunnis traced the Kaymaklı name in 1936 to a farm that made clotted cream, and Turkish Cypriots set small Küçük Kaymaklı against the bigger Büyük Kaymaklı next door. Young men founded the quarter's football club at the Mehmet Ali Çavuş Kahvesi in February 1951.
Fighting reached it in December 1963. The Turkish Cypriot households fled. Greek Cypriot families left in turn in the summer of 1974, and a small eastern pocket stayed on the Republic of Cyprus side of the line.

Omorfita lies between Trachonas and Kaimakli on the Mesaoria plain northeast of central Nicosia, with Mandres on its northern edge and Neapoli southwest.
