Levante District sits outside the monument core of Córdoba, so a room here stands in a working residential quarter rather than on a tourist street. Six barrios make up the district. Sagunto and Fuensantilla-Edisol press against Ronda del Marrubial, close enough to walk into Distrito Centro. The Mezquita-Catedral lies west of that line, which makes the old town a walk from these blocks rather than a bus ride.
Fátima spreads east along Avenida de Carlos III, where the Centro Cívico faces Plaza Mahatma Gandhi. Stay in Levante District if you arrive by car, or want ordinary Córdoba once the queues have gone.

What are the main landmarks in Levante District?
Levante District holds the Fuente de Canaletas on Avenida de Barcelona, an iron column standing under four lamps. Barcelona's council gave the copy to the avenue that carries its name, and it went up in 1982. Plaza Lahore opens in Viñuela-Rescatado.
On Calle Sagunto the Grupo de viviendas Los Apóstoles is recorded in the Andalusian heritage inventory, as is the Nave Ford, an industrial shed further east on Avenida de Libia. The Biblioteca Municipal Central occupies the former Cuartel de Lepanto on Ronda del Marrubial, beside the Centro Cívico Lepanto. Parque Madre Coraje breaks the blocks in Sagunto.
What is the history of Levante District?
Levante District is the twentieth-century east of Córdoba, laid out on ground that carried self-built housing long before it carried planned streets. The Zumbacón was the poorest quarter in the city, and its name stood for hunger. In 1954 the city council approved clearing the whole zone and putting a green space in its place.
Demolition finished in the 1960s. Families were rehoused in Cañero among other places. The name survives in the barrio of Zumbacón-Gavilán, while Fátima, Sagunto and Levante filled the blocks east of Ronda del Marrubial, cut off from the Polígono Industrial Pedroches by the railway.
