Parque Cruz Conde is a residential barrio west of the old town of Córdoba, built in blocks around fourteen hectares of park. Avenida de Menéndez Pidal carries the traffic through it, and Avenida del Corregidor closes the western side, so driving and parking are simpler here than inside the walls. The Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba stands a little over a kilometre north-east.
Choose the barrio if you have business at the Hospital Universitario Reina Sofía, or if you are travelling with children, because the Zoo de Córdoba and the Ciudad de los Niños both open off the park. Nights are quiet.

Parque Cruz Conde takes its landmarks from the park it is named after. Cruz Conde Park covers fourteen hectares in the middle of the barrio, and the signposted sports circuit across it is known in Córdoba as the Cola Cao circuit. Avenida Linneo drops from there towards the river, the Zoo de Córdoba on one side and the Real Jardín Botánico de Córdoba on the other, the second holding an arboretum, a rose garden, and a Museo de Etnobotánica.
The Ciudad de los Niños adjoins them. The Teatro de la Axerquía plays under the open sky on Avenida de Menéndez Pidal, and the Iglesia de San Pelagio Mártir serves the blocks behind the park.
What is the history of Parque Cruz Conde?
Parque Cruz Conde is a barrio of the 1960s on the oldest inhabited ground in Córdoba. The Colina de los Quemados beneath it holds occupation from the third millennium BC, and Rome founded Corduba on separate ground to the north-east in the second century BC. The quarter began with a park.
Antonio Cruz Conde, mayor of Córdoba from 1951 to 1962, took the land behind the cemetery for green space, and the expropriation opened on 17 October 1958. Fourteen hectares were drawn. Housing followed under the general plan of that same year, and the first flats were handed over in 1967 to families arriving from the villages of the province.
