All Saints Church marks the middle. A base beside it puts the market streets, Clifton Park Museum and the ground down to the River Don inside easy reach, and Clifton House and Clifton Lane sit on the same side of the town. Beds are workmanlike.
The centre trades polish for proximity, with the Church of St Mary Magdalene and the York And Lancaster Regimental Museum both close, and Boston Castle standing apart from the shopping streets on its own ground. Kimberworth is the other side. Kimberworth Manor House and the moated site there belong to a much older settlement than the steel town, and Ferham Park gives that quarter its green.
The Roman Ridge crosses the higher ground above both. Whiston is quieter again. Blue Man's Bower moated site sits out that way, the Church of St Mary serves it, and a car makes more sense than a bus for anyone based on that edge of the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham.
