Portuguese occupation of the settlement came in the sixteenth century, and the village kept working its shell kilns for white building ash right through to its official disappearance in 1910. Parks and educational buildings followed. The Chunambeiro name outlived its village.
Macau's district list still carries village names of the same kind, Povoação de Sam Ka and Cheok Ka Village among them, while the quarters neighbouring the old site went through a wide rebuilding.
