Where to stay in Paranaque City

The right area depends on your trip — here's what each neighbourhood is best for.

The casinos hold the top end. Rooms inside Entertainment City belong to the four big houses that make up the strip, and a stay there buys the tables, the floor shows and the SM Mall of Asia Arena within one short run. Baclaran is the opposite bargain.

Its backpacker inns sit among the flea markets and the nightclubs, a few minutes on foot from the Baclaran Church, and the noise of all three carries well into the small hours. A third option ducks both. Streets out by Old Nayong Pilipino and the Philippine Air Force Aerospace Museum keep a residential character, far enough from the tables and the market crowds to suit anyone who wants an early night before a flight or a long drive.

Match the area to your hours. Entertainment City is built to run late, Baclaran wakes with its stallholders, and the Shrine of St. Therese, Doctor of the Church keeps a quieter calendar again in a third part of the city. Distance is rarely the deciding factor here.

Forty-six square kilometres hold the whole of Parañaque, so the Dessert Museum, the arena and the casino blocks all fall inside the same handful of journeys whichever bed you choose.

About Paranaque City

Two districts do the work.

What is Paranaque City known for?

Entertainment City gathers four large casinos into the strip billed as Manila's Little Las Vegas, and the nightlife around them is why a good share of visitors book in Parañaque at all. Baclaran pulls a different crowd. Flea markets run through its streets, the Baclaran Church brings worshippers in numbers no casino matches, and backpacker inns and nightclubs share the same blocks as the stalls.

What are the main landmarks in Paranaque City?

The arena is the biggest room in the city. Concerts and league basketball fill the SM Mall of Asia Arena, and its schedule reaches an audience from well outside Parañaque. Museums cover the older ground.

Old Nayong Pilipino and the Philippine Air Force Aerospace Museum hold cultural and aviation collections, the Dessert Museum trades on something lighter, and the Shrine of St. Therese, Doctor of the Church stands with the Baclaran Church among the religious names that draw the steadiest crowds of all.

What is the history of Paranaque City?

The year on the record is 1572. Parañaque was established some four and a half centuries before the casino strip existed, and nearly everything a visitor now travels here for postdates that founding by a very long way. Markets came first.

Baclaran developed as a residential and commercial quarter whose stalls and church pulled traffic in from across the metropolis while the outer districts of the city were still filling in. Then the tables opened. Entertainment City assembled four large casinos into a single district, took the billing of Manila's Little Las Vegas, and turned a place better known for cheap goods and church crowds into one of the region's nightlife addresses.

The official title is the City of Parañaque. It ranks among the highly urbanized cities of the National Capital Region, the administrative tier the Philippines reserves for its largest urban units. The rest of the landmark roll reads as an older layer underneath that change: Old Nayong Pilipino, the Philippine Air Force Aerospace Museum and the Shrine of St. Therese, Doctor of the Church all belong to a city of collections and congregations rather than gaming floors, while the Dessert Museum and the SM Mall of Asia Arena sit squarely with the new trade.

Both cities occupy the same streets.

Where is Paranaque City?

Districts divide it, not terrain. Parañaque spreads over some forty-six square kilometres of the National Capital Region, flat ground built across from one boundary to the next, where Entertainment City and Baclaran read as separate worlds inside a single street network. Relief plays no part.

What a map of the city shows instead is the arrangement of market blocks, casino frontages and museum grounds, all of it lying in the tropics at a level barely above the sea.

What is the climate of Paranaque City?

The year has two settings. Wet and dry stand in for the four seasons at this depth in the tropics, and the heat holds steady enough across both that the month of a visit matters far less to comfort than the hour of the day. Evening brings the relief.

Entertainment City and the Baclaran markets both fill up after dark, which owes something to the temperature and something to habit.

How do you get to Paranaque City?

Roads bring nearly everyone. Parañaque lies within the continuous built-up area of the National Capital Region, so an approach means working across the metropolis rather than covering open ground, and the arrival hour depends on which streets are moving. Baclaran is the thick end.

Stalls narrow the lanes around the Baclaran Church through most of the day, while arrivals bound for Entertainment City or the SM Mall of Asia Arena tend to time the last stretch to miss the market hours.
