Dzielnica Cesarska was laid out on the levelled ramparts of Twierdza Poznań, on ground the Brama Berlińska had guarded at the head of the road to Berlin. Joseph Stübben drew the plan in 1903. Building ran from 1904 to 1910, and Prussian authorities intended the result as a new Germanic urban core.
