The Cytadela park carries most of what a visitor comes here to see. Muzeum Armii Poznań and Muzeum Uzbrojenia w Poznaniu keep the military collections on its grounds, and the headless cast figures of Nierozpoznani stand in a field of their own across open ground. Older Poznań lies further south.
The Royal Castle, the Archcathedral Basilica and Brama Poznania ICHOT belong to the deeper part of Stare Miasto, a tram ride from Winogrady rather than a walk.
What is the history of Winogrady?
Winogrady carries a vineyard name. Two villages called Winiary stood on this ground, and the vineyards worked around them left Winogrady the name it still carries. The vines went; the word stayed.
The park below the district holds the harder half of the story: Cytadela means citadel, and the collections of Muzeum Armii Poznań and Muzeum Uzbrojenia w Poznaniu stand on ground the army held long before walkers had it.
