Krzesiny trades the tram network for a motorway junction and a railway halt. Houses and smallholdings line ulica Krzesiny, with the airfield fence closing the ground to the south-west and a lime avenue running the length of the street. The halt called Poznań Krzesiny sits on line 272, a short walk west, with Poznań Starołęka the next stop toward the centre.
F-16 fighters fly from here. Buses 162 and 196 serve the osiedle by day, and the 220 covers it at night. Book here if you are driving in from the A2 and want the airfield rather than the Stary Rynek outside the window.

What are the main landmarks in Krzesiny?
Krzesiny keeps its church and its manor on one street: the timber Kościół Matki Boskiej Królowej Korony Polskiej at ulica Krzesiny 15 and the neo-Gothic Dwór na Krzesinach at number 13. The church follows north-Norwegian models, and it came from the model village at Poznań's 1911 exhibition before its assembly here began on 6 May 1912. The manor holds a kindergarten.
A plaque on its side wall remembers the victims of the akcja krzesińska of 1941. The parish cemetery lies along ulica Jarosławska, and a cross put up in 1988 stands at the corner of that street and ulica Krzesiny.
What is the history of Krzesiny?
Krzesiny first appears in 1294, spelled Cresiny, when Przemysł II moved the estates of the Bnin castellan Mirosław to German law with judicial immunity. The Krzesiński gentry drew their surname from the place, and a tax roll of 1510 counted ten łans, a folwark, and an inn. Prussia annexed it in 1793.
In 1900 the Prussian Colonisation Commission bought the whole Krzesiny estate, parcelled it among settlers brought mostly from Westphalia, turned the manor into their school, and renamed the village Kreising. German police drove Poles from Krzesiny and its neighbours to the school yard beside the church on 23 November 1941.

Krzesiny lies eight kilometres south-east of the Stary Rynek, with Pokrzywno north, Krzesinki east, and Głuszyna south-west. The Krzesinka and the Świątnica cross it.
