Sur District puts its rooms on the left bank, opposite the old city of Córdoba. Most of them sit in Campo de la Verdad-Miraflores, a few minutes on foot from the Roman bridge and the Torre de la Calahorra. Beds thin out southward. Fray Albino and Sector Sur hold flats and short lets more than hotels, strung along Avenida de Cádiz, while Polígono Guadalquivir at the far end is warehouses and housing.
Sleep here if you want the Mezquita across the water at first light and a quiet street at your back.

What are the main landmarks in Sur District?
Sur District keeps its landmarks along the water. The Torre de la Calahorra stands at the southern head of the Roman bridge on Calle Bajada del Puente; Enrique II rebuilt it in 1369 and a barbican went round it under Juana I in 1514. It holds the Museo Vivo de al-Ándalus.
East along the same bank, in Campo de la Verdad-Miraflores, the Centro de Creación Contemporánea de Andalucía turns a long lit facade to the river. The Iglesia de San José y Espíritu Santo closes Plaza de Santa Teresa in Fray Albino, and a fountain holds the middle of Plaza de Andalucía further south.
What is the history of Sur District?
Sur District begins with a razed suburb. Saqunda, the Umayyad quarter on this bank outside Qurtuba, fell in 818 when its craftsmen rose against the emir Al-Hakam I, who then banned rebuilding on the ground. Excavations at the Parque de Miraflores in 2001 and 2002 found its houses intact beneath the field.
The rest is post-war. A housing association set up by Bishop Albino González Menéndez-Reigada handed over the first Fray Albino houses in 1948, Sector Sur followed from 1955, and tenants moved into Polígono Guadalquivir in 1984.

Sur District holds the left bank of the Guadalquivir at Córdoba, closed by the river on the west and south and by the Autovía del Sur toward El Arenal.
