Chwaliszewo is six short streets between the Warta and Garbary. Ulica Chwaliszewo runs the length of it and Wenecjańska, Czartoria, Tylne Chwaliszewo, Nowa Sienna and Ciasna fill the rest, which puts the Ostrów Tumski cathedral across the water and the Stary Rynek a few minutes west. The old riverbed is dry ground.

What are the main landmarks in Chwaliszewo?
Three churches served the island and none of them survives. St. Nicholas stood at Zagórze, St. Barbara came with a hospital in 1496, and St. Lawrence completed the set, until the Prussian administration forbade their repair and all three came down around 1805. The street plan outlived them.
What is the history of Chwaliszewo?
It was a city in its own right. Chwaliszewo belonged to the cathedral chapter and held city rights from 1444 until 1800, when the Prussian authorities folded it into Poznań, and the branch of the Warta that made it an island was filled in during 1968. The president named it a pomnik historii in 2008.
