Marcelin, Poznań — Area Guide & Where to Stay
Asparagus test fields and Fort VIIa survive at Marcelin, a former farm estate in western Poznań now filled with offices and apartment blocks.
About MarcelinWhere to stay in Marcelin
The right area depends on your trip — here's what each neighbourhood is best for.
Marcelin works as an office and housing quarter rather than a hotel one. Business Garden Poznań fills ulica Kolorowa with workplaces, King Cross Marcelin takes the shopping at ulica Bukowska 156, and the streets between them were laid out for people who live here. Offices now stand on the old fields.
Hotel rooms cluster east of here, around Łazarz and the Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie halls, while Stadion Poznań stands south of Marcelin at ulica Bułgarska 17. You want it for a week at the office park, with Lasek Marceliński and the manor park for the evenings.
About Marcelin
What are the main landmarks in Marcelin?
Fort VIIa anchors the western side of Marcelin, one of the eighteen forts of Twierdza Poznań, raised between 1887 and 1890 on ulica Marcelińska. The register of monuments entered it under A-245 in 1983. Poland renamed the fort for General Zygmunt Zieliński in 1931, and its grounds fall inside the Natura 2000 area covering Poznań's fortifications. A maple avenue runs along ulica Zgorzelecka.
The Dwór na Marcelinie sits at number 4, a neo-Renaissance house of the fourth quarter of the nineteenth century, with the old farm's granary and two cement-block silos surviving alongside.
What is the history of Marcelin?
Marcelin began as a folwark, the manor farm on Poznań's western edge that Konstancja Łubieńska owned. Adam Mickiewicz knew her well. The poet's eldest daughter Maria stayed at the Marcelin manor in the first half of the nineteenth century, and in 1850 Łubieńska opened a housekeeping school for girls on the estate.
The Wielkopolskie Zakłady Teleelektroniczne, the Teletra telecommunications works, later took ground near the fort, and office towers went up around them.
Where is Marcelin?
Marcelin holds the ground between ulica Bukowska on the north, ulica Bułgarska on the east, and Osiedle Bajkowe on the west. Lasek Marceliński takes the south.
