Stone cut like the Shu mountains fronts the Chengdu Natural History Museum in Erxianqiao Subdistrict, a district of Chengdu around a geology university.

About Erxianqiao Subdistrict

Where to stay in Erxianqiao Subdistrict

Each area has its own feel; here's who each one suits.

Erxianqiao Subdistrict is a base for the Chengdu Natural History Museum and the campus beside it, not for the old centre. Shilidian station on Line 8 opens straight onto Chenghua Avenue in front of the museum doors, which makes the avenue the simplest place to sleep for a visit built around the collections. Line 17 serves the north.

Erxianqiao North Road runs down from the Jichechang stop through a plainer grid of flats and shops, and it suits you if the reason for coming is the university rather than the museum.

About Erxianqiao Subdistrict

What are the main landmarks in Erxianqiao Subdistrict?

Erxianqiao Subdistrict's landmark is the Chengdu Natural History Museum, whose stone-clad halls stand on Chenghua Avenue beside the Chengdu University of Technology campus. The campus gate opens on Erxianqiao East Third Road. The museum's Dinosaurs of Sichuan and Chongqing gallery holds the type skeleton of Mamenchisaurus hochuanensis, mounted in 1965 and restored to about 24 m before the new building opened.

Erxianqiao Park lies at the western end. Shengdeng Park, in the east, carries the name of the subdistrict folded into Erxianqiao in 2019.

What is the history of Erxianqiao Subdistrict?

Erxianqiao Subdistrict holds the campus founded on 15 March 1956 as the Chengdu Institute of Geological Prospecting, the forerunner of Chengdu University of Technology. Its exhibition rooms of autumn 1960 grew into the Chengdu Natural History Museum, opened in November 2022. The subdistrict grew in December 2019, when Chenghua District abolished Shengdeng Subdistrict and put its ground under the office at 16 Erxianqiao North Road.

Chenghua Avenue supplied the punchline. An exchange on the traffic programme Tan Tan Jiaotong, in which an old man said he was heading to Erxianqiao along Chenghua Avenue, spread across China in 2020.

Where is Erxianqiao Subdistrict?

Erxianqiao Subdistrict takes up the middle of Chenghua District, bounded by Longtan Subdistrict north and east, Baohe Subdistrict to the south, and Fuqinglu Subdistrict to the west. Chenghua Avenue runs north-east through it. The Middle Ring Road swings through the western side as the Erxianqiao West and East sections, and Erxianqiao station stands at the corner where three subdistricts meet.
