Xindu District centres on Guihu Subdistrict, the old county town that still holds the district offices at 92 Guihu Middle Road. Chengdu Metro Line 3 runs out this way to Chengdu Medical College, calling at Clock Tower and Southwest Petroleum University, while Line 5 comes up the western side to Huagui Road. Xindu East station takes Xi'an-Chengdu high-speed trains. Stay here if your day is Baoguang Temple, the campuses, or the Xinfan end of the district rather than the centre of Chengdu.

What are the main landmarks in Xindu District?
Xindu District keeps its Tang fabric at Baoguang Temple, where a square thirteen-tier stupa is the one part of the compound still standing from that dynasty. Ming builders rebuilt its upper storeys out of true, setting the seventh floor and everything above it slightly to the west, so the shaft tilts. The Arhat Hall holds 500 arhats.
More than 400 stone pillars carry the halls around it. Gui Lake lies south of the temple, ringed by the osmanthus that Yang Shen planted and by the shrine later raised to him. At Xinfan, Longcang Temple stands at 86 Rongjun Road.
What is the history of Xindu District?
Xindu District has carried that name since Qin set up a county here in 221 BC, and the two characters of it mean new capital. Sui moved the county town in 598 to the ground the district centre still occupies, and Tang restored the Xindu name in 619. Then the county changed places with Xinfan.
Xindu was abolished in February 1960 and folded into Xinfan; the county came back in October 1962, and in July 1965 it was Xinfan that was abolished and folded into Xindu. The State Council ordered the county's conversion in November 2001, and Xindu District opened on 1 January 2002.

Xindu District runs north across the Chengdu Plain from Jinniu District to the Deyang line at Guanghan, the Qingbaijiang watering its north and the Pi River its south.
