What are the main landmarks in Jinniu District?

Jinniu District's chief monument is Yongling, the tomb of Wang Jian, at 10 Yongling Road. Wang Jian founded Former Shu and was buried in 918, and his coffin chamber was raised on the surface under a mound rather than sunk below it, which sets the tomb apart from every other Chinese royal burial. Feng Hanji's team dug it out between 1940 and 1943.

Newer ground lies north-west, where Tianfu Art Park opened around Yinggui Lake in 2021 with the Chengdu Tianfu Art Museum on one shore. Phoenix Mountain Mosque serves a Sunni congregation.

What is the history of Jinniu District?

Jinniu District is named for Jinniuba, the flat where legend set one of the stone oxen Qin used to bait the Shu court into cutting a road north. That road became the Stone Ox Road. Chengdu's suburban district took the Jinniu name in 1960.

Further north at Tianhui, four Western Han pit tombs were opened at Laoguanshan between 2012 and 2013, giving up model pattern looms and bundles of medical bamboo slips. Only a relic site marks the Jiulidi flood dike, nine li of earth credited to Zhuge Liang, later the Liugong Dike, and destroyed under the Republic.

Where is Jinniu District?

Jinniu District holds the north-west of inner Chengdu, bordered by Chenghua District, Qingyang District, Pidu District, and Xindu District. The Sha River drains east.
