About Jinjiang District

Where to stay in Jinjiang District
Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.
Jinjiang District keeps its lodging in two trading quarters: Chunxi Road and Yanshikou in the west, and the Hongxing Road blocks around Daci Temple. Rooms sit thickest by Taikoo Li, whose grey-tiled lanes and the Chengdu International Finance Center stand a short walk from Chunxi Road Station on Metro Lines 2 and 3. Stay by Hejiang Pavilion for the water. Out at Sansheng, on the flat of the Chengdu Plain, the shopfronts give way to nursery fields, plum groves, and farmhouse courtyards.
About Jinjiang District
What are the main landmarks in Jinjiang District?
Jinjiang District carries two nationally protected excavation sites and the trading streets of central Chengdu. Daci Temple, rebuilt between 1866 and 1878 on a Tang foundation, stands at the centre of the low grey-roofed lanes of Taikoo Li, which opened around it in 2015. Emperor Xuanzong named it in 756.
The Shuijing Street Distillery Ruins preserve a Ming and Qing baijiu workshop, uncovered in 1998 under a working brewery on Shuijing Street. Brick pavements of the Tang and Song survive at the Jiangnanguan Street Site. Hejiang Pavilion marks the meeting of the Fu River and the Nan River.
Tazishan Park climbs the ground east of it.
What is the history of Jinjiang District?
Jinjiang District was constituted in 1991, after the State Council approved breaking up the East City District. The new district kept most of East City and took in the Liulichang and Sansheng townships from Jinniu District, all of it old Huayang County ground. The name comes from the Jin River.
Chunxi Road was cut through in 1924 by the warlord Yang Sen, opened as Senwei Road and renamed from a line in the Daodejing about crowds climbing a spring terrace. Excavation from 2007 at the Jiangnanguan Street Site turned up Tang and Song pavements, drains, and house floors beneath the shops.
Where is Jinjiang District?
Jinjiang District runs south-east from central Chengdu, edged west by the Jin River facing Wuhou District, with Qingyang District north-west and Longquanyi beyond.
