Xipu Subdistrict sells access rather than hotel desks. Central Chengdu keeps the counters, and Metro Line 2 runs in from Xipu station on Hongguang Avenue. Metro Line 6 runs beneath it.
What a bed out here buys is the interchange itself, since an arrival off the Chengdu-Dujiangyan railway crosses one island platform to a waiting metro train rather than leaving the station to queue again. Line Rong 2 of the Chengdu tram adds a stop named for the Southwest Jiaotong University Xipu Campus. Stay in Xipu Subdistrict if your errand is on that campus or on the Dujiangyan line.

What are the main landmarks in Xipu Subdistrict?
Xipu Subdistrict takes its landmarks from the railway. Xipu station carries two island platforms over four tracks on its viaduct, the metro on the inner pair and the Chengdu-Dujiangyan railway on the outer, with exits onto Hongguang Avenue. The Locomotive Museum of Southwest Jiaotong University opened in 2016 inside the south gate of the Southwest Jiaotong University Xipu Campus, off Xi'an Road.
It holds a steam locomotive, a diesel unit, an electric locomotive, and the university's own medium-low-speed maglev car. A Zhan Tianyou statue stands among them.
What is the history of Xipu Subdistrict?
Xipu Subdistrict carries the name of a county the Tang court created in 686. Song officials abolished Xipu County in 1072 and left a market town under Pi County in its place. Legend puts Li Bing behind it.
Tradition holds that his flood works sank stone rhinoceroses in the water to hold down a monster, and the town on the bank took the rhinoceros into its name. Late Qing registers renamed the town Xihe, and 1930 gave Xipu back. A commune swallowed the town in 1966, it returned in 1985, and Sichuan converted it to a subdistrict on 23 December 2019.

Xipu Subdistrict covers 19.26 square kilometres at the eastern edge of Pidu District, against Anjing Subdistrict, Tuanjie Subdistrict, and Jinniu District.
