About Osiedle Pod LipamiWhere to stay in Osiedle Pod Lipami
The right area depends on your trip — here's what each neighbourhood is best for.
Osiedle Pod Lipami is built almost entirely of flats, five thirteen-storey blocks and ten five-storey blocks, with two small houses left standing among them. Ulica Do Alei splits the western half. The Słowiańska side went up first, and it puts you next to Park Kosynierów and the church of St. Charles Borromeo.
Blocks along the ulica Serbska edge look instead into Park Jurija Gagarina, where a central alley runs east from Rondo Solidarności down into a shallow valley. Tram tracks run along ulica Naramowicka on the eastern edge.
About Osiedle Pod Lipami
What are the main landmarks in Osiedle Pod Lipami?
Osiedle Pod Lipami keeps its landmarks in Park Kosynierów and Park Jurija Gagarina. Park Kosynierów fills the triangle between ulica Słowiańska and ulica Naramowicka, and it is what survives of an evangelical burial ground whose deciduous trees still shade the paths. The church of St. Charles Borromeo stands inside that park, a single-nave postmodern building finished in 2014.
Park Jurija Gagarina runs the northern edge. Its main entrance opens at Rondo Solidarności, where Jerzy Sobociński's concrete obelisk of a helmeted cosmonaut was unveiled in 1977. Sportowa Szkoła Podstawowa nr 29 carries a plaque to Jan Kochanowski.
What is the history of Osiedle Pod Lipami?
Osiedle Pod Lipami was the first estate raised on Winogrady, its cornerstone set on 9 May 1968 in the foundations of block number two. Four low blocks facing ulica Słowiańska opened in 1969 with 541 flats, and building ran on until 1973. The estate opened as Wielkiego Października, named for the October Revolution in Russia.
That name did not survive. Until 1990 the ground lay in the Stare Miasto district, and a self-governing Osiedle Pod Lipami existed from 2000 until 1 January 2011, when it merged with Osiedle Przyjaźni into Osiedle Nowe Winogrady Południe.
Where is Osiedle Pod Lipami?
Osiedle Pod Lipami sits on Winogrady, north of Poznań's old core. Ulica Serbska bounds it on the north and ulica Naramowicka on the east, while ulica Słowiańska runs the southern side and ulica Murawa the western. Aleja Pod Lipami cuts across. Osiedle Kosmonautów lies north, Osiedle Przyjaźni west, and the Wilczak streets east toward the Warta.
