Osiedle Rusa, Poznań — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Eighteen doorways open along one block at Osiedle Rusa, a panel-built quarter of eastern Poznań and the site of the longest building in the city.

About Osiedle Rusa

Where to stay in Osiedle Rusa

Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.

Osiedle Rusa is a housing estate, not a hotel quarter, so a room here means a flat inside a panel block rather than a lobby. Every address here reads Osiedle Rusa. Two covered tram stops, Piaśnicka/Rynek and Piaśnicka/Kurlandzka, sit in a tunnel under the southern edge, one end of a line that runs west toward central Poznań and east to Franowo.

Take a room here if you want a quiet stairwell and a tram ride rather than a room in Stare Miasto.

About Osiedle Rusa

What are the main landmarks in Osiedle Rusa?

Osiedle Rusa counts a parish church and one elliptical tower among its landmarks. Kościół Świętego Łukasza Ewangelisty stands at number 59, begun in 1986 and consecrated on 18 October 1996. Chartowo Tower, an elliptical block of eighteen floors above ground finished in 2000, interrupts a roofline the panel blocks otherwise hold flat.

The slab at numbers 121-138 runs past four hundred metres, and no building in Poznań or anywhere in Greater Poland Voivodeship is longer. Hospicjum Palium occupies number 55. Jezioro Maltańskie lies north-west, well outside the estate, with the M1 centre and the brewery across Kurlandzka.

What is the history of Osiedle Rusa?

Osiedle Rusa began as a building site handed to its contractor on 16 June 1976, with sewer, storm and drainage trenches cut before the year was out. Excavation for block 101-114 opened the work in March 1977, under the working name B and the Rataje-76 system. A farm stood where the towers rose.

The Chartynia, the stream along Kurlandzka, went into a storm drain in 1977. Szkoła Podstawowa nr 6 opened at number 56 on 1 September 1982. The name honours Rus, legendary brother of Lech and Czech, whose names Osiedle Lecha and Osiedle Czecha carry.

Neon signs on the tallest roofs failed often in the 1980s and read Osiedle USA.

Where is Osiedle Rusa?

Osiedle Rusa sits inside Chartowo, hemmed by Piaśnicka on the south-west, Kurlandzka on the east, Chartowo Street on the west, and Bliźniąt along the north.
