Mountains & Alpine Scenery in Norway

Mountains in Norway press right up against the towns, climbing from Bergen's harbour, shadowing Rjukan's valley floor, and ringing the port of Narvik. Heights begin at the doorstep. Flåm sits under valley walls where waterfalls drop toward the river, Geiranger crouches at the closed head of its fjord, and Geilo opens the high fells of Hol in the Østlandet upland.

Do mountain trips require mountaineering experience?

Mostly no. Marked trail networks, staffed huts, and valley bases put serious country within reach of ordinary walkers; genuine climbing is a choice, not a requirement. The planning work is matching route length and exposure to the least experienced person in the party.
